What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a naturally occurring state of mind that you enter into many times during the day. You experience hypnosis when you are daydreaming, concentrating on something of great interest or driving over familiar roads. I know many people have had the experience of driving somewhere, not having remembered every part of the journey (as they were unknowingly in a state of hypnosis).

What does Hypnosis feel like?

As it is an altered state of awareness somewhere between being fully awake and being asleep, hypnosis usually feels like a pleasant state of relaxation. This is similar to when you are day dreaming or relaxing at home – a wonderful beneficial feeling of escaping from our stress-filled day to day lives.

What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is appropriate therapy or suggestions given to you while you are experiencing the state of hypnosis. The aim of this is to have a therapeutic effect on your mind and body to achieve self-improvement or to relieve symptoms or problems. Both physical or psychological issues can be addressed very effectively and powerfully.

Hypnotherapy has been likened to meditation and there are similarities – both allow you to achieve similar states of relaxation. In meditation however you are usually attempting to clear your mind of everyday thoughts and worries. The main difference in Hypnotherapy is the therapist works with you to provide you with appropriate positive suggestions to assist you to achieve your goals. Using different techniques, Hypnotherapy can help you to get rid of old habits, negative ways of thinking and behaving, and replace them with positive new habits, like relaxation, motivation, and feeling more confident.

Why choose Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is so powerful because it is a tool to gain access to your subconscious. This is where your habits and responses are established. Often for change to occur you need more than just willpower or focus to achieve the result you are aiming for.

There is increasingly more and more scientific evidence of the connection between our bodies and our minds. Our emotions play a huge part in our health and well being and can be the cause of many physical as well as psychological symptoms. Hypnotherapy is a valuable natural tool for addressing a wide range of issues.
